Karl Lagerfeld, arguably the most recognizable fashion designer in the world. Now days, he said he hope Choupette, his famous Birman Cat, would become more famous than him, and then he can disappear behind the cat. But few things could be less likely. He delivers even the most pointed of his gravelly barbs with composure unlikely to ruffle his starched collar or muss his Dior Homme.
Karl announced last week
that he would add a show of couture fur, for Fendi during the Paris couture
collections in July. He had an interview with a journalist in back office at
Fendi’s headquarters resent days. This occasion will signify his 50th
anniversary as designer for Roman label, the longest-ever partnership between a
designer and luxury company. And he had an interview with a journalist in a
back office at Fendi’s headquarters.
Karl set this anniversary as a new start. He doesn’t like looking back. Because of that, Karl doesn’t take ideas from his own past. He said: “Sometimes I see things [and say], ‘Oh, it’s not that bad.’ And people tell me, ‘you did that 20 or 30 years ago.’ Maybe- I forgot.” He thinks that if you’re in the business, you must not think about your own work.
About selfies, Karl said
he doesn’t do selfies, but other people want to do selfies with him.
Interestingly, he said: “Thank God, Sébastien,
my assistant, he’s mean to the people in the street, mean and rude. And I can
be the nice person.”
Karl hates the label “artist”.
“I’m a designer, I do photos, I do books, I’m a publisher, but I don’t have the
self-proclaimed label “artist”. If other people say it, it’s very flattering,
but if you start to say it, you’d better forget it.”
